Farm Tours Are Back

We would like to invite you to bring your class or group to our farm this fall for a tour that is both educational and entertaining.

Minter's Farm, which has been in our family for four generations, is located on Hill's Bridge Road about five miles south of Fayetteville.

We'll work with groups of any size, and tours are available morning and afternoon everyday except Sunday. Just call us and we'll work you in.

On your visit here, students will get to pick cotton from our cotton patch while we explain to them how cotton is made into cloth. They'll be given a small sack so they can take home the cotton they pick.

They'll also learn about how important corn is in their lives. Each student will be given a chance to grind kernels of corn with a hand-cranked grist mill, and the ground corn then will be fed to our animals, which include donkeys, calves and chickens.

A visit to Miss Quinnie's Cabin, an original 1870s log home, allows students to learn about life a century or more ago. We also have a rock maze, small teepee and arrowhead collection that we use to give the students some idea of our area's native American heritage.

The students are also being taugh about the Creek Indians. We'll help each student make a small craft item: the girls will make bracelets and the boys will make headbands with a feather.

The farm has more animals and we are growing winter vegetables as well as pumpkins. We will show the children and teach them the values of farming and food.

Of course we'll take every class on an old-fashioned hayride around the farm. At the end of the tour each class will get to help make a hand-twisted rope that can be taken back to the classroom.

Each child also will get to select a small pumpkin to take home with them.

Parents are encouraged to attend and are welcome to participate in all the activities.

We have ample area for picnics after the tour, and we have handicapped-accessible restrooms on site. Our tours cost $6 per participant. There is no fee for teachers.

We like to offer as much personal attention as possible to our guests, so we prefer to schedule a maximum of five classes per day.

We thank you for considering us and hope you will decide to bring your students to our farm.

Thanks again for visiting the website,
Rick, Joanne and Stephanie Minter
