Farm Tours Are Back

After taking a few years off because of obligations away from the farm, we are reopening our farm for tours for school students.
Our farm, which has been in our family for four generations, is located on Hill's Bridge Road about five miles south of Fayetteville.
As those of you who have visited us in the past know, we strive to make our farm visits primarily educational but also entertaining.
On your visit to Minter's Farm, students will get to pick cotton from our cotton patch while we explain to them how cotton is made into cloth. They'll be given a small sack so they can take home the cotton they pick.
They'll also learn about how important corn is in their lives. Each student will be give a chance to grind kernels of corn with a hand-cranked grist mill, and the ground corn then will be fed to our animals, which include donkeys, calves and chickens.
A visit to Miss Quinnie's Cabin, an original 1870s log home, allows students to learn about life a century or more ago. We'll help each student make a simple doll from corn shucks and string, something children in pioneer days would have done.
Of course we'll take every class on an old-fashioned hayride around the farm. At the end of the tour each class will get to help make a hand-twisted rope that can be taken back to the classroom, and we'll demonstrate a 130-year-old printing press and a broom maker of even older vintage.
Each child also will get to select a small pumpkin to take home with them.
Parents are encouraged to attend and are welcome to participate in all the activities.
We have ample area for picnics after the tour, and we have handicapped-accessible restrooms on site. Our country store, which will be open at the end of the tour, offers candy, drinks, bottled water and small souvenirs for sale.
Our tours cost $6 per student, due on the day of the tour.
We like to offer as much personal attention as possible to our guests, so we prefer to schedule a maximum of five classes per day.
We thank you for considering us and hope you will decide to bring your students to our farm. If you need more information, we can be reached in the following ways:
